These earring were so fun and easy to make! I wanted to create something fun and colorful but at the same time I didn't want earrings that are excessively heavy. What I did is that I used plastic packaging from a disposable container as a base to glue on acrylic rhinestones. The acrylic rhinestones add color and sparkle without being too heavy so they are the perfect embellishment for these earrings. I added chain around the border to finish them off. Because these are so easy to make and colorful, they are a perfect for resale at craft fairs and flea markets.
Materials Needed
Plastic Packaging (Should be flat and sturdy)
E-6000 Glue
Acrylic Rhinestones
Chain
Jumprings
Earring Wires
Tools Needed:
Jewelry-making pliers
Toothpick for spreading glue
Scissors
Step 1: Place the acrylic rhinestones onto a piece of plastic packaging and play with the layout until you have a paisley-like shape (or the shape of your choice). Use the toothpick to spread glue onto the plastic and glue on the rhinestones. Allow to dry.
Step 2: Use scissors to cut around the shape. Leave a border to glue on the chain.
Step 3: Use the to toothpick to spread glue around the edges. Gently place the chain around the borders starting at the top of the earrings. Avoid twisting the chain as you lay it down. Leave 1 or 2 links excess to connect to earring wires with a jumpring.
Step 4: Once the glue dries, connect the excess links at the top to a jumpring and add on an earring wire. Your earrings are now ready!
Other Ideas
If you don't want a drop-shape, try laying out the rhinestones in different combinations. You can also put your own spin on these earrings by using word instead of chain, or adding beads, glitter or microbeads. You can also use the same technique to make a pendant instead of earrings. Happy Crafting!
