Recycled Plastic Heart-shaped Earrings Tutorial
If you're looking a for a quick and easy project to make, these earrings are definitely it! I made them with recycled plastic packaging that I got from an item I purchased. You can also use the plastic from a soda bottle. I used a marble technique with nail polish to finish them. They are lightweight and super versatile.
Materials:
- Recycled plastic packaging
- Nail polish
- Scrap cardboard (for template)
- Jump rings
- Earring Wires
Tools:
- Sharpie
- Scissors
- Small hole punch
- Jewelry-making pliers
Instructions
Step 1. Draw a heart shape on a scrap piece of cardboard and cut out. Use this as your template for tracing the heart shape.
Step 2. Cut out the heart from the plastic packaging and use the small hole punch to make a hole for the jump rings.
Step 3. Use the nail polish to paint the earrings. To get a marbleized technique, use contrasting colors and a toothpick to swirl them.
Step 4. Once they're dry, add jump rings and earring wires.
Other Ideas
You can try this technique with different shapes and even add other beads to compliment the plastic shapes. You can also take it a step further and glue rhinestones to the plastic for some sparkle.
