Recycled Plastic Paris Pendant
I made this pendant using an up-cycled hummus container and an image transfer from an old calendar. This technique is super versatile, fun and no one will believe you made it with plastic packaging. It also makes very lightweight pendants so it's great for people who don't want a heavy necklace. If you don't know how to make an image transfer, here is a link for a tutorial on how to make image transfers.
Materials:
- Plastic Packaging
- Image Transfer with picture of Paris (or picture of your choice)
- 3mm faceted beads
- Fringe beads
- Teardrop bead
- Wire
- Head pin
- Jumprings
- Velvet ribbon
- Ribbon tips
- Lobster clasp
Tools:
- Circle punch
- Scissors
- Small hole punch
- Bent Nose Pliers
- Flat Nose Pliers
- Round Nose Pliers
Instructions
Step 1. Use the circle punch on the plastic packaging to get a circle shape. If you don't have a circle punch, trace a circle on the plastic and cut it out.
Step 2. Glue the transfer onto the plastic. Once the glue dries, cut out the circle and mark the places where you want to punch holes to do wire wrapping and where you want to add the jumpring. You should make an odd number of holes so that you can place the tear drop in the middle. Use the small hole punch to open them up.
Step 3. Take a piece of wire and slip through the first hole. Bend the wire and twist a few times. Add a bead and thread the wire through the adjacent hole. Add another bead and continue wire wrapping until you reach the middle.
Step 4. When you reach the middle, use round nose pliers to twist the wire into a loop. This is where you will suspend the teardrop bead. Continue adding the other beads as you normally would. When you add the last bead, twist the wire around the last loop several times and trim.
Step 5. Add a jumpring to the top hole. Cut the velvet ribbon to the desired length and add the ribbon tips. Attach the lobster clasp to the ends with jumprings.
You are now ready to wear your gorgeous handmade pendant!!
